President Morgan-Barnes, 20, was given a name with a mission: Her parents named her after her great-grandfather to make a statement that women belong in positions of power. Today, she’s living up to it as a Long Beach-based DJ, music curator, and community builder. What started as DJing during the pandemic has evolved into Y’all Got to Hear This, a monthly listening party where music lovers share their favorite records and the stories behind them.

Inspired by her father, a lifelong DJ who recently “passed the torch,” President sharpened her skills at the Beat Junkie Institute of Sound and is now carving out her own lane as a music curator, DJ, and community builder. Her advice for young creatives? Start small, take the risk, and stop waiting for permission. The community you’re looking for might be waiting for you to create it.
