SNAP gives young people the opportunity to explore their lives through the lens of a camera, and tell their stories to the world, all the while developing the literacy skills for effective self-expression with both words and pictures.
SNAP then engages entire communities through high-profile public exhibitions, web galleries, and publications that celebrate the students’ written and visual stories.
SNAP is committed to improving K-12 education for all young people by supplying classrooms with cameras and curriculum resources. It meets the diverse needs of all learners and adheres to mandated curriculum requirements.
SNAP Re-energizes educators while empowering students toward ACADEMIC SUCCESS AND POSITIVE SOCIAL ACTIONS.
The SNAP Philosophy is to inspire all young people to love learning, and to focus on life's possibilities! Through fun and inviting activities, SNAP gives young people the chance to openly explore their world through
the lens of a camera, and then to express their stories through words and pictures. Their voices and visions of a positive future then become part of local and national exhibitions. These high-profile venues reinforce for the students that their stories
are heard, and that their daily life choices matter.
The SNAP Curriculum offers lesson plans for K-12 learning in subject areas, such as: SNAP-s (stories and literacy); SNAP-c (civic engagement); SNAP-e (environment); and SNAP-d (diversity).
In each variation of the SNAP curriculum, students are led through four basic steps.
Brainstorm the things they love and cherish.
Document their lives through pictures.
Research, write about and create artistic representations of their visions for their future.
Engage family and friends by organizing community-wide exhibitions of their uplifting written and visual stories.
SNAP’s Mission: SNAP’s mission is to contribute to the academic success and positive social behavior of children and young adults. SNAP will offer educational opportunities that excite students and reenergize educators with the curriculum.
